Introduction
The story of the Belmond Hotel Caruso begins in the 11th century with a Roman noble family, who on their way to Constantinople were shipwrecked off the coast of Ravello. After surviving their ordeal they cancelled their trip and built a place - Palazzo d’Afflitto - on the cliffs of Ravello as a sign of their survival and gratitude. Transitioning into a hotel over the centuries, the palace became a favorite hideaway for the rich and famous - Virginia Woolf, Greta Garbo, Humphrey Bogart, Jackie Kennedy - but to name a few. In 2000 the medieval palace was restored to its former glory - 50 rooms and suites all individually and uniquely decorated in lavish yet simple Neapolitan style. With cascading gardens, a swimming pool, a Spa and fitness center, various bars and the renowned Belvedere restaurant the Belmond Hotel Caruso still maintains its stature among the elite jet set.
