Exploring Belfast in a Day

Exploring Belfast in a Day

In many ways, Belfast is a city reborn. Far from the turbulent and violent place it was during The Troubles, modern Belfast is a vibrant, cosmopolitan, and thoroughly enjoyable city to explore. First established as a settlement for English and Scottish migrants in 1603 by Sir Arthur Chichester, Belfast had blossomed into an important center of commerce and industry by the 18th and 19th centuries. Linen, rope-making, tobacco, heavy engineering, and shipbuilding all thrived in Belfast and towards the end of the 19th century, Belfast became the largest city in Ireland, briefly overtaking Dublin in the process. Boasting an ever-growing list of attractions including exquisitely restored Victorian architecture, a beautiful waterfront lined with modern art, and several chic new restaurants and bars, there is much for you to discover and love in this fine Irish city.
